Know That You Have Eternal Life – I John 5:13 KJV
Know That You Have Eternal Life – I John 5:13 KJV
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:13 KJV).
We would like to discuss one of the most important points in the Bible and that is Eternal Life. The reason this is important to discuss because there are individuals that claim they can lose their salvation because of sin. These individuals do not know Jesus Christ paid for ALL sin at the Cross of Calvary. These individuals need to know that Jesus Christ paid for ALL sin at the Cross of Calvary. When we say “all sin,” we mean every sin from Adam to the last person ever to be born on earth. Every sin that all humanity has ever committed and will ever commit, Jesus Christ paid a satisfied sacrifice for sin. Individuals need to know that if Jesus Christ did not pay for all sin at the Cross of Calvary, He would not have resurrected; however, He did resurrect proving our faith is not in vain! (I Corinthians 15:12-20) Christ’s death on the Cross does not do anything for anyone unless it gives them everlasting life. If you have Christ as your Savior, you have this life: EVERLASTING LIFE! Anyone who doubts that God gives eternal life is calling God a liar. Don’t you think it would be very unwise to call God a liar? Personally, I would not want to be in that category. The Bible is very clear on the position of eternal life. The One and True God wants every one of His children to know that they are saved forever. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:13 KJV).
All mankind is a sinner. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 KJV). All mankind is helpless, hopeless, hurtful, and harmful sinners. Man sinned and everything in this world was cursed. Heaven is a perfect place and only perfect righteousness gets a person to Heaven. Man has missed the mark of perfection. Actually, anything in this world is cursed (churches, rituals, sacraments, traditions, and works of men). Something from out of this world has to pay for sin. “Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:21-24 KJV). Jesus is not of this world. Jesus left His Glorification and revealed Himself in the flesh and became sin for all mankind. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (II Corinthians 5:21 KJV). When a person trusts in Christ alone for salvation: believes in the Gospel of Christ. They instantly receive the righteousness required to get to Heaven. They receive Christ’s righteousness because each believer is positionally secure in Christ. “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith” (Philippians 3:9 KJV).
Salvation is a present possession. The very second a person trusts in Christ alone for salvation, they are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ. “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit” (I Corinthians 12:12-13 KJV). The very second a person trusts in Christ alone, they are sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise guaranteeing them eternal life forever in Heaven. “That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:12-14 KJV).
It is not a person’s faithfulness or obedience that keeps a person saved; it is the faithfulness of God that keeps a person saved. A person can never earn salvation. Every person that is going to Heaven for all eternity is saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, documented in the scriptures alone, so, the LORD receives the glory alone. If a person cannot earn salvation, how can they keep or lose their salvation? A person does not keep or forfeit their salvation. Once a person is saved, they are kept by the faithfulness of God. “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (I Peter 1:5 KJV). Every believer is saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Nobody deserves to be saved, it is of God’s grace. Once a person is saved grace, they are eternally secure by God’s grace.
It is not the perseverance of the saints that keeps their salvation. It is the preservation in Christ that individuals are eternally secure. Every believer is permanently secure in Christ. Every believer is positionally secure in Christ. Every believer is preserved in Christ because it is Christ that holds onto believers. It is the Father that holds unto believers. “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:28-30 KJV).
Eternal life is not based on experience, perception, or impressions. Eternal life is based on facts. Eternal life is based on a promise from God. “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life” (I John 2:25 KJV). Eternal life is a promise from God and God cannot lie. “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:2 KJV).
Some individuals “front-end” the Gospel with works. Others will “back-end” the Gospel with “obedience” or “saving faith” which is not the Gospel. “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:6-9 KJV). “Front-ending” the Gospel with works, or “back-ending” the Gospel with lordship salvation is a perversion of the Gospel. Neither is dependent on the Finished Work of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins (past, present, and future), He was buried, and He resurrected the third day to show us the payment for sin is paid in full. “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (I Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). It is the Gospel that saves which is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
The Gospel actually means “good news.” If a person could lose their salvation, would that be “good news?” If a person could forfeit their salvation, would that be “good news?” If a person has “to do” something to keep their salvation, would that be “good news?” If it is not of grace, it is not “good news.” However, it is of grace and it is “good news!” “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV).
If salvation depends on a person doing something (ritual, sacrament, tradition, or work) for salvation, this person is saying Jesus Christ's death payment for sin, burial, and resurrection is insufficient. If salvation depends on a man doing something for salvation, man is saying the work at the Cross of Calvary is insufficient. If salvation depends on a man doing something for salvation, man is calling Jesus Christ a liar because they are saying the work is NOT DONE! In the Bible, Jesus Christ said the work IS DONE. As a matter of fact, He said IT IS FINISHED! “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost” (John 19:30 KJV).
If a person says the work of Jesus Christ is insufficient at the Cross of Calvary and believes in a church, rituals, sacraments, traditions, or works of men for salvation. I have a couple of questions for this person: 1) how good is good enough; 2) who is judging your works; 3) are you judging your own works; 4) are you comparing yourself to other sinners throughout the world and saying your sin is not as bad as others? The bible says a person has to be absolutely perfect to get to Heaven. “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:27 KJV). The Bible says there is not a just man on earth that does good! “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not” (Ecclesiastes 7:20 KJV). The Bible says if you are going to keep the Law, they must keep the entire Law. “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10 KJV). The Bible says if you do not trust in Christ alone, you are on your own. “Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law” (Galatians 5:2-3 KJV). If a person rejects Jesus Christ as their Savior, they are required to fulfill the entire law; however, they have already missed the mark of perfection because they have already sinned. The Bible says the payment for sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23 KJV). Every person needs to know that Christ fulfilled the law by His love: He demonstrated His love by dying for all sin for all mankind and freely gives His Righteousness to anyone who believes. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth” (Romans 10:4 KJV). All of mankind is already condemned. However, there is no condemnation nor future condemnation for believers in Christ alone. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18 KJV).
Jesus Christ loves you so much; He died to meet you. Jesus Christ voluntarily went to the Cross of Calvary and died for all your sins (past, present, and future), He was buried, and He resurrected the third day showing you His sacrifice for sin is sufficient –IT IS FINISHED. If you have not received Jesus Christ as your Savior, what is stopping you right now from accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior? Believe Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, burial, and resurrection. Trust in Christ alone as your Savior today, and know you have stepped from death unto eternal life the very second you believe. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24 KJV).
Doesn’t it make sense to trust the only one who came back from the dead as your only hope of going to Heaven? Right now, tell the Lord that you believe that Jesus Christ paid for all your sins, He was buried for you, and He resurrected for you, and that you trust in Him to take you to Heaven when you die. When a person trusts in Christ alone for salvation, that person can know they are going to Heaven when they die because the Bible says they can “know.” “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:13 KJV).
THE PLAN OF SALVATION - THE GOSPEL
The Gospel is Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins (past, present, and future), He was buried, and He resurrected the third day to show us the payment for sin is paid in full.
I Corinthians 15:1-4: Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
God loves you. Lord Savior Jesus Christ was revealed in the flesh for one reason: to save us from our sins. Jesus Christ does not come to condemn individuals. Jesus Christ comes to save us because we are all Hell doomed sinners without the Blood of Jesus Christ.
John 3:16-18: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
All individuals are sinners. The payment for sin is death.
Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Christ died for your sin and resurrected for you.
II Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
I Corinthians 15:3-4: For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
If you believe in Christ alone, you receive eternal life.
John 6:47: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
I John 5:13: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
If you could be “saved” by being water baptized, doing good works, be a good person, or following the Ten Commandments? Why did (the God from Eternity Past, the God from Eternity Future) the Ever Presence Jesus Christ reveal Himself in the flesh and die on the Cross and resurrect the third day? No church can reconcile. No sacrament can save. No work or tradition of men can redeem. Only Jesus Christ can save a person from a Hell they deserve to a Heaven they do not deserve -all by grace!
Galatians 2:21: I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
If you could earn salvation by doing those things, then Jesus Christ died in vain. However, Jesus Christ did not die in vain. Jesus Christ made a perfect sacrifice for sin. He is the Lamb of God, and only the Lamb of God can make a perfect sacrifice for sin. There is only one way to Heaven, and it is the belief in the Finished Redemptive Work of Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Philippians 3:9: And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.
Galatians 2:16: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.
The resurrection is proof God the Father accepted Jesus Christ’s death payment for sin -death payment of past, present, and future sin: ALL SIN!
People DO NOT go to Hell because they are “bad.” People go to Hell because they believe NOT the Gospel of Jesus Christ. People trust NOT in Jesus Christ as their Savior. People believe NOT Jesus Christ died on the Cross for their sins, burial, and resurrection. People do NOT trust alone in the finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
II Thessalonians 1:8-9: In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.
Know that God is gracious to you. He has already died for all your sins (past, present, and future), He was buried for you showing all the world He died for your sins, and He was resurrected for you, showing all the world that Jesus Christ fulfilled what the Father asked Him to do: IT IS FINISHED! Your sins are paid in full. I pray you to believe in Jesus Christ right now for salvation -believe Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sin, burial, and resurrection. Trust alone in Jesus Christ as your Savior. If you know someone who is “not saved,” share the Gospel message with them or forward this message to them.

Once Saved, Always Saved -“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:28-30 KJV).
